With care and planning there is no reason why a grid ceiling system cannot be installed to a professional finish by any competent person.  No special tools are required and all but the largest of projects can be completed using general tackle found in your DIY tool box.  However, you will benefit from investing in a good quality spirit level, a pair of tin snips and a few cheap but effective small clamps.  These will come in handy to hold the main runners in place until the wire hangers are attached.  A string line with a couple of strong bull dog clips will be useful to run from perimeter to perimeter.  This will ensure the ceiling is flat and has no bows in it.
